Vera Songwe is new Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa
The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres has appointed Vera Songwe to the coveted post of Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The appointment was made public on Thursday, 13 April 2017.
Prior to the appointment as head of ECA, the 42 year old who hails from the Bamenda province of Southern Cameroons had been Regional Director for the International Finance Corporation for West and Central Africa. The International Finance Corporation is a subsidiary of the World Bank.
