US: Democrats call for Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh to be impeached
A number of Democratic presidential candidates have called for the impeachment of US Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh following a new report of sexual misconduct allegations against him.
The New York Times reported on Saturday night that Kavanaugh was engaged in a sexual misconduct at a party against a woman without her consent.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Kamala Harris, former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro and former Congressman Beto O’Rourke have all called for Kavanaugh’s impeachment.
Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Amy Klobuchar called for further investigations. Sanders said an “appropriate constitutional mechanism (should be there) to hold him accountable.”
Senator Warren said Kavanaugh “should be impeached” just like President Donald Trump who has denounced sexual misconduct allegations against the judge as a “con game” being played by the Democrats.
“Last year the Kavanaugh nomination was rammed through the Senate without a thorough examination of the allegations against him,” Warren tweeted.
“Confirmation is not exoneration, and these newest revelations are disturbing. Like the man who appointed him, Kavanaugh should be impeached,” she continued, referring to Trump.
