US ambassador calls on Biya to be “cool-headed” over Southern Cameroons
US Ambassador to Cameroon Michael S. Hoza said on Thursday that he had a dense and fruitful exchange with President Paul Biya on bilateral cooperation between the United States and Cameroon . The two personalities reviewed current issues including the socio-political situation in Southern Cameroon. The ambassador also hinted that the talks were intensive and productive.
The ambassador opined that “The United States strongly supports the search for peaceful solutions and dialogue in Cameroon.” He added that Washington was satisfied with the return of the Internet in Southern Cameroons. Michael Hoza revealed the Trump administration was in support of an inclusive dialogue as a way of resolving the Southern Cameroon crisis. Michael Hoza also saluted the bravery of the Cameroonian soldiers combating the Nigerian Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
The United States is an important ally for Cameroon in this crusade against terrorism and violent extremism. In addition to the 300 US marines stationed in Garoua, who have been involved in intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance missions since October 2015, the Americans are supporting Cameroon in military training and equipment. However, some of the military hardware donated by the Americans has been used in the killings currently going on in Southern Cameroons.
