Southern Cameroons Uprising: Thousands took to the streets, Gerdarmerie post vandalised in Meme
Southern Cameroonians who responded to calls for peaceful demonstrations by the Southern Cameroons Governing Council attacked a gendarmerie post in Ekiliwindi, in the Kumba County after they received incessant provocation from French Cameroun gerdames stationed in Meme.
The Francophone gendarmes did not retaliate against the attack. Cameroon Intelligence Report gathered that the gendarmerie premises and the gendarmes’ vehicles were burned and a gendarme officer was seriously wounded.
In the context of the Southern Cameroons crisis, these organized protesters stormed the streets of Buea, Bamenda, Kumba, Mamfe, Mundemba, Menji, Muyuka, Wum, Bali, Tiko and Limbe, the epicenters of the Anglophone protest.
We understand many Southern Cameroonians were killed by the French Cameroun security forces. There was also extensive material damage, including public buildings that were attacked and burnt down. The home of the Mayor of Buéa was attacked and vandalized.
French Cameroun media sources say the situation has become calm again and Yaounde security forces have regained full control of the territory. The Francophone dominated army has invited the population not to be influenced by the Southern Cameroons Governing Council.
