Southern Cameroons Crisis: Wounded gendarme dies in Douala Military Hospital
Student Constable Tchakoumi who was wounded in an attack on the Mamfe Gendarmerie post carried out on the 7th of December 2017 has died at the Douala Military Hospital. “We did our best to save him unfortunately, he was bleeding a lot during his evacuation to Douala,” said a source at the military hospital.
On December the 7th 2017, armed militants entered Mamfe via the Cross river by motorboat and attempted to take over a gendarmerie station at Egbekaw.
The attack resulted in the death of a gendarme and five assailants according to Cameroon government sources. Five other soldiers were wounded during the clash, including a Sub lieutenant.
Since the beginning of October 2017, targeted attacks against gendarmes, both military and police, have been increasing in Southern Cameroons, particularly in the Manyu constituency bordering neighboring Nigeria.
