Student Constable Tchakoumi who was wounded in an attack on the Mamfe Gendarmerie post carried out on the 7^th of December 2017 has died at the Douala Military Hospital.  “We did our best to save him unfortunately, he was bleeding a lot during his evacuation to Douala,” said a source at the military hospital.

On December the 7th 2017, armed militants entered Mamfe via the Cross river by motorboat and attempted to take over a gendarmerie station at Egbekaw.

The attack resulted in the death of a gendarme and five assailants according to Cameroon government sources.  Five other soldiers were wounded during the clash, including a Sub lieutenant.

Since the beginning of October 2017, targeted attacks against gendarmes, both military and police, have been increasing in Southern Cameroons, particularly in the Manyu constituency bordering neighboring Nigeria.
