Southern Cameroons Crisis: Calm gradually returns to Mamfe as fear still reigns
A news reporter serving with a local radio station was caught by a stray bullet in Mamfe and civilians were trapped in clashes between Southern Cameroons fighters and Cameroon defense and security forces in Manyu Division. Heavy fighting erupted on Thursday, December 7, 2017 and lasted until the early hours of today Friday December 8.
Gun shots were fired in several localities in Manyu, especially in Manfe the chief town in the constituency. According to a Cameroun military source, the clashes were between alleged terrorists fighting for the independence of Southern Cameroons against the nation’s Francophone dominated defense and security forces.
A precarious calm reigns at the moment and the provisional assessment that we can give you is that of five soldiers wounded, a gendarme killed and ten Ambazonian fighters slaughtered by forces loyal to the Biya regime of defense.
The situation has gone from bad to worse ever since President Paul Biya, ordered a massive deployment of troops to Manyu. Cameroon Intelligence Report gathered that Mamfe town is militarized and bullets were raining everywhere. “We do not know where to go anymore we are no longer safe” noted a local resident.
