Senator Etienne Sonkin to challenge Fru Ndi in the February 2017 SDF extraordinary congress
A source close to the Social Democratic Front (SDF) has hinted that Senator Etienne Sonkin intends to challenge Ni John Fru Ndi for the leadership of the party in the February 2017 extraordinary congress. It is now an open secret that the rhythm of wars of succession has rocked the main opposition party after Joshua Osih was recently tipped by some to succeed the founder, Ni John Fru Ndi.
A significant proportion of SDF militants are reportedly not happy that ever since its creation in 1990 the party has been revolving around the family name John Fru Ndi. Many have opined that it’s time to give a chance to someone else. Senator Etienne Sonkin has been quoted as saying:
“I am not excluded in the list of those who intend to run against the Chairman. You have mentioned all the names of those who want to replace Chairman John Fru Ndi except mine. I am free to have ambitions. I was in charge of the party at the regional level, I was Treasurer of the SDF, I was mayor of the town of Dschang and I am currently the elected Senator of the SDF.”
