S. Cameroons Independence: Yaounde witnesses increased police presence as Secret Service step up covert operations against Anglophones
French Cameroun security agencies have step up policing in the nation’s capital, Yaoundé in preparation for the October 1 Independence Day celebrations in Southern Cameroons. Intensive security operations have been observed in all the major roundabouts in both the capital city and the Douala metropolis.
Since September 27, 2017, Yaoundé has a security system that arouses the curiosity of its inhabitants. Armored vehicles from the Special Operation Group (GSO) and an elite police force are littering the streets of Yaoundé. There is a huge police presence in front of restaurants and some gambling halls.
The French Cameroun Secret Service have conducted massive raids in the Obili neighbourhood inhabited by Anglophone Cameroonians in Yaoundé. Cameroon Intelligence Report gathered that many people were arrested and were taken to the Commissariat d’Efoulan with their fingerprints and photos collected.
