Rapid Intervention Battalion frees 6 Cameroonian hostages
An assault launched this weekend by the elements of the 5th Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) in Meiganga in the East region culminated in the release of 6 hostages. Cameroon Intelligence Report learned that the six including two children were presented to the administrative and traditional authorities of the Barki and Darwi II localities.
Our source hinted that the six people alongside the 8 year old girl and a boy of 13 had been retained in captivity for 6 weeks in the forest. The hostages were kidnapped by gunmen at a place called Darwi, near Meiganga Mbéré Division in the Adamawa region. Their tormentors reportedly demanded 8 million CFA francs. Cameroon security forces carried out the action that led to their release.
Part of Adamawa region which borders the Central African Republic has been the target of acts of banditry attributed to gangs and rebel militia men.
