Protecting Wildlife: Ministers of Defense and Forestry have signed a memorandum of understanding
The Ministries of Defence and that of Forestry and Wildlife have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate in the protection of wildlife. According to the terms of the agreement, the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) will accompany the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF) to achieve its objective of protecting endangered species in protected areas.
The MoU serves as an opportunity to formalise the existing cooperation between both ministries since MINDEF has already been training the eco guards of the MINFOF for a period of time.
The Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Ngole Philip Ngwese expressed satisfaction with the signing of the agreement. It was a similar feeling for Defence Minister, Joseph Beti Assomo who noted that the MoU will permit his Ministry to assist the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife in the surveillance of protected areas, the acquisition and use of arms and the construction and maintenance of infrastructure in protected areas, as well as in reinforcing the capacity of eco guards.
