President Obama says watching Trump is just to laugh
US President Barack Obama says his most common reaction when watching Republican nominee Donald Trump on television is just to laugh. During ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” television program broadcast on Monday, Obama was asked if Trump’s performances during presidential debates made him laugh.
“Most of the time,” the president responded to cheers. Obama also derided the leaked recording of Trump boasting about making unwelcome sexual advances on women. The president also trolled the real estate tycoon for his “mean tweets” and read out some of those tweets about himself.
“President Obama will go down as perhaps the worst president in the history of the United States!” Obama read a tweet from Trump. “At least I will go down as a president,” he shot back sarcastically.
In another dig at Trump, Obama said that as president he has been called on a special phone “three or four times” in the middle of the night to deal with emergencies, but he said he did not reach for his smartphone in the wee hours of the morning.
“I don’t tweet at 3 a.m. about people who insult me.” Obama has frequently branded the Republican candidate as a “dangerous” demagogue who is unfit for the White House. With the Election Day just two weeks away, Trump continues to lag behind his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in national polls.
The former secretary of state has the support of 49 percent of likely voters, while the billionaire businessman has 44 percent support, according to the CNN/ORC survey released on Monday. Trump has charged that the Democrats have rigged the polls to damage his campaign but insists that he would win regardless.
