The United States expresses its sympathy to the Government and the people of Cameroon concerning the fire during the evening of November 16th that damaged Cameroon’s National Assembly, an integral part of Cameroon’s democracy and constitution, and we recognize the valiant work of the firefighters who extinguished the blaze.

The United States understands the importance of the legislative branch of a democratic government as a platform for all perspectives of a nation’s people to be represented, discussed, and debated in a spirit of peace and compromise.
