La Republique: Second bridge over the Wouri in Douala to go operational in December
The second bridge over the river Wouri in the Douala metropolis is expected to be operational by the end of 2017, the Ministry of Public Works of La Republique du Cameroun has said in a statement. According to the Ministry of Public Works, the second bridge which connects Douala to Bonaberi (the 4th district of the economic capital, which is home to an important industrial zone will be completed on the 31st of December 2017.
The total cost of the project including the expenditure that was incurred during the laying of the foundation stone on the 14th of November 2013 by President Biya, amounts to 110 billion FCFA. Specifications provided by the company Sogea Satom, which is carrying out the project, the 2nd bridge over the Wouri is 750m long and has 6 spans with a range of 135m. The deck of the bridge carries two railways, which will allow movement by train on the bridge.
