Rebels from the Central African Republic have attacked employees of a French timber company based in the East region of French Cameroun. The incursion of the Central African rebels took place recently in the small town of Yokadouma, Boumba-and-Ngoko division.

Employees of the Compagnie Forestier du Cameroun (Cfc) belonging to the Thanry group were surprised by heavily armed men in the village of Mempoué some 58 km from Yokadouma. The assailants asked for money from the employees. The Central African rebels took a young girl hostage whose identity was not yet been revealed. One of the vehicles of the company was also set on fire.

This is not the first time that an enterprise operating in this part of Cameroon rich in natural resources is being attacked. In 2016, another French company had been attacked by heavily armed men. Central African armed bands make regular incursions into French Cameroun territory stealing livestock, kidnap people, kill men and rape girls.
