La Republique: A Public Health Minister of broken promises
After a strike action staged by patients in need of dialysis on June 29th at the Yaoundé General Hospital, André Mama Fouda, the Minister of Public Health has now promised that dialysis kits acquired from Europe will arrive Cameroon within a week. It is not the first time, Mama Fouda is making such promises!!
Cameroon Intelligence Report learned that patients undergoing dialysis demonstrated at the Yaoundé General Hospital, blocking access to the so-called referral hospital’s infrastructure.
The Francophone Minister of Health, André Mama Fouda, told state radio and television that the difficulties in the supply chain are the cause of the disturbances in the majority of the dialysis centers in the country. Fouda pointed out that the government had taken all necessary measures to restore the proper functioning of each center in the short term.
In a typical CPDM pattern, the Public Health boss noted that “A stock of about ten tons of dialysis kits is expected to arrive in Cameroon by cargo plane and by sea within a week.” Some 2 million people are affected by kidney failure in Cameroon.
