Joseph Wirba gets hero’s welcome in Jakiri
SDF MP, Wirba Joseph has again been accorded a hero’s welcome in his hometown after the National Assembly failed in an attempt at lifting his parliamentary immunity on Saturday. He was received as a king at Jakiri where he arrived that same Saturday a few hours after a meeting of the Emergency Office of the National Assembly convened by Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, Speaker of the Chamber.
A reliable source had hinted Cameroon Concord News Group that the main agenda of the Cavaye Yeguie Djibril convocation was to start the waiver of Wirba’s immunity so that he could be arrested for defending the English-speaking communities in the National Assembly.
Having been missing for about five months, the outspoken SDF Member of Parliament appeared unexpectedly at the hemicycle of Ngoa-Ekelle on June 21, 2017. He was reported on the run since he had defrayed the chronicle Last year at the third and last parliamentary session of the year 2016.
On the rostrum of the National Assembly, in a long speech of about thirty minutes, he denounced the government of Paul Biya which, according to him, marginalized in its management, the Cameroonians of English expression. In the aftermath, he declared his support for the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium and clamored for secession.
“I am back to continue the fight for the English-speaking regions, which we have started. Nothing is finished. I think that any country that wants to build a dignified future must know its past. And the past is that two peoples have come together. All that we are asking for is therefore a right. Therefore, someone has to stand up and say no. So I came back to continue what I started again. By my return I mean that if the price to pay for speaking on behalf of its people is prison, I am ready for that, “he said in an interview last month.
