Fru Ndi to step down as SDF Chairman
A very credible source within the Social Democratic Front has hinted Cameroon Info.Net that Ni John Fru Ndi the emblematic leader of the so-called main opposition party in Cameroon has expressed his desire to step down as chairman. We gathered the information filtered during a National Executive Committee, NEC meeting that was held on Saturday the 13th of January 2018 in Bamenda.
Cameroon Intelligence Report learnt that the final communiqué of the NEC meeting has still not been made public. But according to very reliable sources within the SDF, some groundbreaking decisions have been made, such as a change in the party’s candidate for the next presidential election.
Local media reports indicated that debates during the conclave lasted two days because it was necessary to settle the amendments to be submitted to the next congress to be held from 22nd to 24th February 2018. It was also revealed that the most important of the amendments concerned the creation of a kind of honorary position for Chairman Fru Ndi.
John Fru Ndi reportedly manifested his desire to resign and informed NEC members that succession be prepared and the management of the party be entrusted to another senior party official. Since its creation in 1990, the SDF has participated in three presidential elections respectively in 1992, 2004 and 2011 with the same candidate, Ni John Fru Ndi.
