French Cameroun: National Communication Council tells journalists to keep truth off the Front page
The President of the National Communication Council has issued an order banning Cameroonian journalists from commenting on the 10-year prison sentence of Ahmed Abba- a news reporter with Radio France International. Peter Esoka observed in the executive order that journalists do not have the right to speak of decisions made by courts. Esoka sounded a note of caution to the president of the National Union of Journalists of Cameroon over statements he made on Wednesday on Radio France international.
Denis Nkwebo had condemned the Yaounde Military Tribunal for reaching a political verdict on the RFI journalist. Peter Esoka said some news men were taking advantage of the court’s decision to tarnish the image of Cameroon. The retired and expired media guru also pointed out that media professionals do not have the right to challenge a court decision. Denis Nkwebo considers the communiqué of the President of the National Communication Council as “null and of no effect”.
