French Cameroun: Biya meets with investors from Europe and Asia
State radio and television reported yesterday that President Paul BIya has discussed investment prospects in the energy sector and the digital economy with potential Investors from Europe and Asia. The announcement came amid local media reports that Biya’s trip to Italy has not yielded anything economically.
The 84 year old dictator however received in two separate audiences the Chairman and CEO of the Electricity Corporation of France (Electricité de France EDF), Jean-Bernard Lévy and the Vice-President of Huawei Technologies, Li Dafeng . Jean Bernard Levy and President Paul Biya discussed areas of interest by the French Company in the development of the Nachtigal Dam.
The French CEO told reporters after the audience that work is in progress in the construction of the 420MW Nachtigal Hydroelectric Project on the River Sanaga. This project is coordinated by the Nachtigal Hydro Power Company (NHPC).
Biya also met with Li Dafeng, the Vice-President of Huawei Technologies who presented the prowess of the Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications equipment and Services Company to the Head of State. He made an appraisal of Huawei’s penetration into the Cameroonian market, and promised to become a reliable partner in the development of Cameroon’s digital economy.
After the audience at the State House , EDF signed a letter of intent for the construction and transmission lines of the Nachtigal Hydroelectric Project. The letter of Intent was signed by Cameroon’s Minister of Water and Energy, Basile Atangana Kouna and Jean Bernard Levy in the presence of Prime Minister Philemon Yang.
