French Cameroun athletes are back in the country after grabbing twenty-one medals, five in gold, seven silver and nine bronze at the just ended 8th edition of La Francophonie Games in Abidjan,Cote d’ivore. The delegation touched down at the Yaounde Nsimalen Airport at five minutes after 8 a.m and was received in a grand style by dance groups, the sports family and well wishers led by Secretary Generals in the Ministries of Sports and Arts and Culture.
On board were a total of 128 members, 80 athletes who participated in ten sporting disciplines and cultural activities and 39 members of the technical. Their arrival at the airport was marked by patriotic songs and dances interpreting the happiness’s in the fans and family members. Twenty-five distinguished athletes were saluted by the Secretary General in the Ministry of Sports and Physical and that of Arts and Culture for their brilliance and agility at the games in which Cameroon was ranked seven on the general classification table.
Joseph Emilienne Essomo Tiako who won two gold medals and a silver in the category of 58 and 60 kg African Wrestling took center stage and was praised by many for making La Republique du Cameroun proud. Other outstanding athletes like Auriol Ndongo,Sandrine Mbumi,Timothee Noah and many more were given a standing ovation by the mammoth crowd at the airport.
A special reception was reserved for the delegation whose performance has greatly improved as compared to their last outing at the 2013 La Francophonie Games in Nice,France. The Secretary General in the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, Mouthar Ousame expressed his joy with the Abijan mission which he described as the best so far for La Repubique du Cameroun in the history of La Francophonie. Canada has been designated as the host of the 9th edition of La Francophonie games to take place in 2021.
