Francophone Football: Abandoned in Brussels, Ambroise Oyongo is finally back in Canada
Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo, winner of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon who was abandoned by the Indomitable Lions in Brussels, Belgium has finally returned to his club, Montreal in Canada. His club was obliged to come to the rescue of the player, whose return travel was not ensured by FECAFOOT officials.
African champion Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo arrived in Montreal on Thursday after his club ranked ninth in Master League Soccer (MLS) in the Eastern Conference paid the cost of his returned flight as the Canadian team did not want him to miss the Saturday trip to Chicago Fire.
After the Cameroon vs Guinea Conakry last Tuesday, the Cameroon defender could not join his club. “I’m stuck in Brussels because I do not have my return ticket for Montreal. I’m here waiting with no one providing answers. You give your heart, your soul, your life for your nation, but others do not recognize your worth.”
It is not the first time that Ambrose Oyongo has been abandoned by the management of the Lions. After a regrouping with the indomitable Lions last February in Yaoundé with the trophy of the African Cup of Nations, Oyongo was forced to pay out of his pocket, his flight ticket to Montreal.
