Fear of Ambazonia Militia: Biya regime cancels Yaounde trade fair
The biggest trade fair in the Sub Saharan region known as “YA-FE”, (Hear Yaoundé), will not take place this year. After several security consultations, “YA-FE” which usually takes place during the end-of-year holiday period has been canceled.
The administrative authorities cited the difficult security situation posed by the Southern Cameroons crisis to justify the cancellation. Cameroon Intelligence Report gathered that in a correspondence to Olivier Essomba, the Director of YA-FE, the Minister Delegate in charge of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo noted that mindful of the crisis in Anglophone Cameroon, the Boulevard du 20 Mai could no longer host the historic trade fair.
The Yaoundé security chiefs say they are not able to ensure the safety of all visitors and do not want to take any chances. Established in 2005, “YA-FE” is the biggest Cameroonian exhibition of the country with affluence. The 12th edition was to be held from the 16th of December 2017 to the 02nd of January 2018.
