Eseka train disaster: Transport and Public Works ministers cleared of any wrongdoing
President Biya has received the report bearing the findings of the Philemon Yang Commission. The Commission of Inquiry was created on Tuesday, October 25th, 2016 by the head of state to investigate the cause of the Eseka train disaster and placed under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Philemon Yang. The commission had 30 days to complete its work.
Cameroun-info.net has reported that the Yang Philemon Commission respected its deadline and handed over its conclusion on Thursday, November 24, 2016 to the president of the republic. As expected the commission reportedly blamed the accident on the technical failures of the Intercity train 152. The report said the brakes of the train obviously did not work well when approaching Eseka station on that fateful day of the 21st October 2016.
As for the responsibility of the transport minister, Alain Egard Mebe Ngo’o and Public Works Minister, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, the CPDM Commission revealed that they acted within their prerogatives to respond to the problems facing travelers. However, the Commission pointed out that there were dysfunctions in their respective reactions.
