Douala-Yaounde: Youths launch campaign against the non-collection of household garbage
A group of young Cameroonians have launched a campaign against Hysacam, the company in charge of garbage collection throughout the national territory. Known as the Hysacam Challenge, the young men and women were pushed into the internet campaign following photos of garbage cans in Yaounde, Douala including many other cities in Cameroon that has generated public outcry and shock public opinion.
The group intends to raise awareness against the non-collection of household garbage. The Hysacam Challenge is very popular with young people, who accuse the company of incompetence and inertia. Images of people eating in garbage cans are being posted on the internet and in newspapers.
According to Hysacam officials, the non-garbage collection is not the fault of the company but council officials who do not pay their bills.
