CPDM hospitals and patients with kidney problems: A place of fun and evil
Following a sit-down strike organised by patients with kidney problems, the Minister of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda, visited the Yaounde General Hospital to assess the state of the equipments in the dialysis centre of the facility. The Minister encouraged the Director of the Facility to hasten up with the process of repairing the broken down equipments.
Mama Fouda confirmed the one week duration announced by the Director of the Hospital for the equipment to become functional. He regretted the fact that patients have been subjected to interruptions in their treatment, emphasizing on government’s resolve to have the patients get continuous treatment at a subsidised rate.
A crisis meeting grouping the Director of the Hospital, the Divisional Officer for Yaounde 5, and the Representative of the protesting patients reportedly took place after the strike. During the meeting, the patients had an occasion to vent out their frustration. The Director promised to have the machines repaired soonest. It should be noted that, the twenty machines within the haemodialysis centre were all out of use; consequently patients with renal problems could not have their effective treatment.
