Conflicting reports on the abduction of the Buea mayor
The mayor of the Buea central municipality, Patrick Ekema seen here on photo with Minister Atanga Nji was reportedly kidnapped on Friday and led to an unknown destination, according to sources from the municipality and the Francophone governor’s office in the Southern zone of Southern Cameroons.
We understand, the Buea council suspended work on Friday immediately after the news was made public in protest of the abduction of the mayor.
The spokesman for the Ambazonia Self-Defense Council Restoration Forces in a statement said Mayor Ekema was arrested and remanded in custody by Southern Cameroons security agents. The municipality has called on President Biya to take the needed measures to make sure the mayor is released safe and sound.
At the time of filing this report, the mayor announced that he was keeping a low profile somewhere within the Molyko neighbourhood.
