Combating Malaria: Cameroon distributing millions of mosquito nets
Cameroon says it plans to distribute more than 2,310,829 mosquito nets to at least 500 000 households in the Central Region. In the Mfoundi division, some 25000 have been distributed since Monday 20 June by officials of the Ministry of Public Health.
The second phase of the free distribution exercise in the Central region stretches from the 21st to 25th of June 2016. Statistics from the National Program for the Fight against Malaria shows that the disease is far from being eradicated.
Senior health officials in the nation’s capital Yaounde have opined that the mortality rate due to malaria is still very high. According to the Ministry of Public Health, 4000 malaria deaths were recorded in 2014. The figures for 2015 are not yet available. The Far North region is the part of the country most affected with 40% of deaths.
