Egyptian football mafia, the Samuel Nlend HIV story: Join the AGBAW-EBAI DEBATE

Egyptian media sources, including the website Kingfut.com reported that Al Ittihad has decided to terminate the contract they signed with Cameroon football star, Samuel Nlend after Egyptian medics revealed the player had contracted the HIV virus that causes AIDS. This information that was also published by the Cameroon Concord News Group has provoked strong reactions of outrage on social networks, some invoking the disclosure of medical confidentiality.

It has emerged that the Egyptian football club launched the negative campaign against the player for lack of funds to pay Union Douala as stipulated by FIFA transfer rules and regulations. Samuel Nlend has been quoted recently by local Cameroon media houses as saying “I am not sick. I’m in good shape, I suffer from nothing.”

Correspondingly, his health report published by the Egyptian website mistakenly carried his nationality as Egypt instead of Cameroon. The AGBAW-EBAI DEBATE is asking our readers to make public their various take on this sad thing. Our question is: Should FIFA order an investigation into the Samuel Nlend issue?

Yaounde gets 150 new urban transport buses

The Minister of Transport, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o and the Portuguese bus construction company, Trans Africa Imaos Mota have signed a partnership instituting new mass urban transport buses in the country. According to the partnership signed on the 30th August 2016, the first contingent of buses will get to Cameroon by 31st October 2016.

The Portuguese Company will provide 150 buses which will be operational at 13 bus stations in Yaounde before going to other parts of the country. The transport fare as indicated by Minister Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo’o will stand at 200 FCFA with government subvention of 100 FCFA.

Ahead of the Female Africa Cup of Nations to take place in November 2016, Limbe will host five of the buses to aid in transportation during the competition. The agreement worth 17 billion FCFA is a stitch in time following difficulties many Cameroonians especially those in urban areas face in moving from one place to another.

The Ministers of Sports and Physical Education, External Relations and Basic Education, alongside the Government Delegates of Yaounde and Limbe were present to witness the signing of the convention at the Ministry of Transport in Yaounde.

Egypt sends Cameroon football star home after medics revealed player has HIV

Samuel Nlend signed a three-year deal with the Egyptian side but stayed for only four days before being shown the door. Egyptian Premier League side Al Ittihad has terminated their contract with Cameroon star Samuel Nlend after the player tested positive for AIDS. Nlend signed a three-year deal with the Egyptian side on August 24 but stayed for only four days before being shown the door on grounds of being ‘sick’.

This unfamiliar happening was reported by the country’s media Kingfut.com, a thing which has seen the 21-year old striker being rendered jobless despite his bright football history. He has been capped five times by Cameroon, scoring in January’s African Cup of Nations competition. Al Ittihad finished last season’s league at position 14 out of 18 teams with 39 points.

Top British academic says UK will never leave EU

Britain’s departure from the European Union (EU) is impossible considering the complex process it requires, warns a top British professor, blasting Brexiteers for not realizing the “sheer enormity” of their decision. Nearly 52 percent of British voters opted to leave the EU in a referendum on June 23, in hopes of taking back control over their borders and having more economic freedom.

Professor Thom Brooks, who is head of Law at the University of Durham, doubted that the UK government would ever be able to end the over 4-decades-old membership in the union, The Independent reported Tuesday. “There is a 42 year evolving legal relationship that is not so easy to unpick. It is an absolutely massive task,” he told the British daily. In order to leave the EU, Britain needs to invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty to trigger the process.

Brooks, however, said the article was unlikely to ever be invoked, and if it was it could “let down the next generation.” “The closer the government looks at what is actually involved in leaving then the less likely they are going to be jumping ship,” said Brooks, who advised the Electoral Commission on the wording of the referendum question.

The Telegraph reported on Friday that British Prime Minister Theresa May will invoke Article 50 without a vote in the UK Parliament. Such a decision is likely to outrage Brexit opponents, who say the referendum’s advisory nature means the House of Commons needs to put the matter to vote before the formal process is triggered.

The majority of lawmakers in the lower house of Parliament, a total of around 480, campaigned for the UK to stay in the EU before the Brexit vote. Brooks, whose research has been quoted in the House of Lords, dismissed May’s plans for Brexit as “Gobbledygook,” and predicted that Brexit ministers would take a U-turn on their commitment to leave the EU and demand a second vote.

A group of lawyers has initiated a legal challenge in an attempt to force May to hold a parliamentary vote. The case, which will be heard in the High Court in October, argues that Article 50 cannot be invoked until the European Communities Act of 1972 is revoked.

BICEC Cameroun: A Bank not to be trusted

It has been revealed that highly placed officials of BICEC Bank Cameroun bought on paper over 450 service vehicles which were allocated to the Douala and Yaounde branches. The scandal of embezzling over 50 billion CFA francs has seen the arrest of four senior bankers currently detained at the New Bell Central prison in Douala.

Cameroon Intelligence Report understands that for over 12 years money was stolen out of the bank in an area where you least expected-that of faking the purchase of service cars and inflating the prices. We now know that in early 2016 and on the basis of accounting documents and purchase invoices, 150 service vehicles were assigned to the Yaounde office of BICEC while the main office in Douala had “only” 300. Financial crime experts have hinted that these cars only existed on paper.

The current audit has made it abundantly clear that no new car was ever delivered to the bank. The famous bills which emanated from a car dealer located beside the head office in Douala were crudely crafted with some amounts not specified. The Bank is indeed run by a mafia network firmly established within BICEC.

Delegate General for National Security expels 8 new police recruits

The Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguélé has dismissed 8 new police recruits undergoing training at the Police Training Centre in Mutegene for falsifying documents. The decision was made public via a press release signed on Saturday 27th August 2016.

Two other students of the police academy were also sent parking from the training on the 3^rd of August 2016 for unruly behaviour. A similar act was reported on 18th August 2016 when an Inspector of Police was fired from the school in relation to indiscipline.

According to the patron of the police force, the fake documents of these eight trainees were uncovered thanks to a commission put in place to review the status of each trainee and ensure order at the training centre. The elements excluded from the police force were admitted after a competitive entrance exam launched on 18th April 2015 to recruit 3000 police officers and reinforce peace in the country.

Chief of Army Staff General Rene Claude Meka inspects project sites in the Baksassi Peninsula

After the building of some schools, hospitals and government offices, the Biya regime reportedly embarked on the building of the fishermen’s village at Isangele and four Telecommunications pylons in four other villages in the Bakassi Peninsula.

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Rene Claude Meka who toured the project sites of the Bakassi Peninsula expressed satisfaction after seeing that the project is almost completed. General Rene Meka instructed the Military Engineering Corps to make sure that the telecom project is realized within the time frame prescribed by government.

The telecoms pylons is actually 75m long each designated for Bamusso, Jabane, Riote and Akwa villages of the Bakassi Peninsula. The military boss extended the Head of State’s word of encouragement to the Soldiers for their loyalty towards Cameroon’s development process.

The director of the Military Engineering Corps, Colonel Jackson Kamngeng hinted General Meka of the little difficulties encountered by his team but however promised that the job will be completed soon.

The Commander of the Second Combined Military Region, Major General Sali Mohammadou, as well as some top military officials of the South West region were part of the inspection team. The project is part of President Biya’s visions to provide a better living condition to Cameroonians of the Bakassi Peninsula.

Belgium: Car bomb explosion hits Brussels Institute of Criminology

A car bomb explosion at Brussels Institute of Criminology in a northern suburb of Belgium’s capital has caused heavy damage to the building. Two suspects, driving the car, rammed through the gates and detonated a bomb near the institute’s laboratories early Monday morning, state broadcaster RTBF reported.

Local media said there was no one in the building and nobody was injured despite the significant damage and fire at the site’s laboratories. A spokesman for the prosecutor’s office said the explosion was extremely powerful which caused windows of the lab to be blown out dozens of meters away.

The official said the explosion had a “criminal origin.” Police cordoned off the site for investigation and authorities set up a “crisis center.” The criminology institute located in Neder-Over-Heembeek is linked to the judiciary and carries out forensic analysis for criminal cases.

Belgian police have arrested five suspects in connection with the blast. “Five people were arrested in the immediate neighborhood… They are currently being questioned to see if they had any role in the incident,” Ine Van Wymersch, a spokeswoman for the Brussels’ prosecutor’s office, told a press briefing.

Belgium has been on high security alert since a March 22 attack by Daesh terrorists on the Brussels airport and subway killed 32 people. The Takfiri terrorist group, which has been waging wars mainly in Iraq and Syria, is said to have terrorist cells spread across the globe.

The perpetrators in the Brussels bombing in March belonged to an extremist terrorist cell which had been involved in the November 2015 Paris attacks.

The bombings were the deadliest act of terrorism in Belgium’s history. The Belgian government declared three days of national mourning following the incident.

Gabon: Opposition candidate declares himself winner of the presidential election

Gabon opposition candidate, Jean Ping proclaimed himself winner of the presidential elections that held on Friday the 27^th of August 2016. However, the Ministry of Interior say it is illegal to make such pronouncements before the official announcement.

Jean Ping made the declaration from his movement headquarters in Libreville on Sunday. The Ping statement came immediately after his camp earlier broadcasted to the press a victory with a score of 60%, based on results compiled in their network. The Ministry of Interior said the results of the August 27 polling could be announced on Tuesday at 5 pm.

First trends had given victory to Ali Bongo in 6 of the 9 provinces of the country with a score of over 54%. The outgoing president has reportedly remained silent as required by the law. Libreville, the capital city has been quiet. A small manifestation of fifty pro-Ping activists excited after the Ping announcement was dispersed by police.

Massive military operation begins in the Far North

Cameroon has deployed thousands of its special forces in the localities of Gansé and Mora in the Mayo-Sava division in the Far North. Cameroon Intelligence Report was reliably informed that over sixty illegal immigrants were arrested in a massive operation which started Sunday August 28^th 2016.

A majority of those arrested were foreign nationals. The governor of the Far North region, Midjiyawa Bakary observed that the military operatives were essentially to restore peace and tranquillity in the department of Mora.

The governor has also ordered the closure of the main livestock market known as Grandma. Grandma is the largest cattle market in Mayo-Sava department.
