Cameroon to screen 1.5 million for HIV/Aids
The prevalence of HIV in the active population of Cameroon has dropped from 4.3 per cent in 2011 to 3.9 per cent in 2016. The controversial Public Health Minister, Andre Mama Fouda made the revelation while opening the first session of the National AIDS Control Committee for 2016 on 22nd June 2016.
The statistics also indicated that about 620.000 people are living with the virus in the country. The Public Health Minister mentioned that plans to screen about 1.5 million Cameroonians, put 224.000 HIV carriers on treatment and increase the number of laboratories carrying out tests are underway. Minister Andre Mama Fouda also said more anti retro viral drugs will be made available.
