Cameroon says Boko Haram is regaining its shape due to Buhari’s health situation
Biya has ordered Joseph Beti Assomo, the Minister Delegate at the presidency in charge of defense to review the strategy that was put in place to combat the Nigerian Islamic sect, Boko Haram. Cameroon Intelligence Report understands Beti Assomo will be traveling tomorrow, Sunday the 25th of June 2017 to the Far North region to assess the work of the defense forces.
A well-placed source hinted that the trip was prescribed by the 84 year old dictator who also moonlights as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. Joseph Beti Assomo, will visit the 4th and 2nd military legions and will make the dangerous trip to Kolofata in Mayo-Sava Division where Boko Haram suicide bombers recently penetrated the residence of the Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali.
The Minister of Defense is also expected to make a stop in Maroua, the chief city in the Far North located in the Mayo-Kani constituency and later to Koutaba in Noun, West region. The official objective of this emergency tour is to evaluate the training and training centers and to review the deployment of the security forces in the fight against Boko Haram.
Joseph Beti Assomo will also convey to the families and victims of the Islamist sect the condolences of the Cameroonian head of state as well as a congratulatory message from President Biya to the members of the vigilance committees fighting alongside government forces. A senior Cameroon military officer who spoke to us but sued for anonymity, said Boko Haram was regaining its shape due to the absence of leadership in Abuja, Nigeria. The militant group has carried out 15 unnamed attacks since the beginning of Ramadan on Cameroonian territory, which has resulted in more than 20 deaths.
We also gathered that Beti Assomo will attempt to resolve the issue of bonuses after the grumbling of some thirty soldiers. The Biya Beti Ewondo regime has instituted disciplinary proceedings against the servicemen who staged the revolt in the Far North.
