ELW Global recently delivered and commissioned ROWPU 2K water purification systems for Cameroon’s Rapid Response Brigade (BIR), after completing a four day training course some eight weeks ago. The units will be used by both the BIR, which is mainly tasked with fighting Boko Haram insurgents, and Cameroon’s regular Army.  The order from Cameroon was for six water purification units and six field kitchens – ELW Global makes low fuel consumption diesel stoves and kitchens and has supplied these to African customers including the South African National Defence Force.

ELW Global said it is negotiating fixed price contracts for water purification systems with the defence forces of other countries in Africa.  The company’s flagship ROWPU 2K (Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit), is a trailer mounted water purification system, which, when utilizing the reverse osmosis process, produces a minimum of 2 000 litres per hour of potable water and 5 000 litres per hour of World Health Organisation standard safe drinking water if reverse osmosis is not required.

The ROWPU 2K is manufactured in South Africa and is in operation with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and customised versions are in operation with the South African Air Force (SAAF).  The company recently announced their ROWPU 2K is available in South Africa on a rental base. This allows municipalities to provide rapidly deployable temporary water purification capacity.

The standard ROWPU trailer has storage bladders for 5 000 to 20 000 litres of water, a pick-up hose for pumping water into the unit, a 15 metre supply hose, diesel generator and water testing kits. If the water purification requirement is permanent, ELW Global can build its technology into shipping containers, prefabricated or fixed buildings.

To date ELW Global have successfully delivered and commissioned water purification units into Cameroon, Senegal, Malawi, Somalia, Darfur (Sudan), Haiti, Botswana and Burkina Faso, Senegal and South Africa. The company has supported United Nations programmes in Darfur (Unamid) and Somalia (Amisom). The company also offers ballistic protection equipment, from bomb blankets to body armour and explosive ordnance disposal equipment.
