Biya’s prolonged absence from the country: Calls for concern
Ever since a vague statement read over Cameroon radio and television on May the 27th, 2016 informing the Cameroonian people that President Biya was travelling to Europe for a private visit, nothing has been heard about the President. It is exactly 21 days now and the nation’s leader is reportedly somewhere in Europe.
Cameroon Intelligence Report understands the Cameroonian dictator had in his delegation, Martin Belinga Eboutou, Director of the Civil Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, Admiral Joseph Fouda, Special Advisor to the Head of State and BIKELE Pierre Simon, the Chief of State Protocol. All close associates of the president.
21 days after the CRTV announcement was made, Cameroonians have not been told what led to the trip by the controversial government spokesman, minister of communication, Issa Tchiroma. Issa Tchiroma has not made an attempt to explain President Biya’s prolonged absence from the country.
Unlike that of his Nigerian counterpart President Buhari, who wrote to the Senate and handed over power to his Vice President and went further and gave the reasons for his trip and explained to his countrymen why the extension was made, the communication department of the Cameroonian head of state is particularly evasive on the reasons for all private travels of President Paul Biya.
