Biya regime’s loud silence over the Kousséri killings
State radio and television including the so-called Cameroon government spokesman have all been silent over the killings of 4 gendarmerie officers by their colleague in Kousseri. On Friday, the 14th of July 2017, Jude Woumessi, a young gendarme on duty at the 33 Squadron of the Compagnie de Gendarmerie in Kousséri, administrative center of the Logone-et-Chari division in the Far North, brutally murdered four people, including three gendarmes and one civilian, with the aid of a firearm.
Cameroon Concord News sources are yet to establish what could have been the reason behind this criminal act from a young officer at the beginning of his career. Two days later, the Biya regime has still not formally made any declaration on the subject of the massacre.
A lot of tongues have been wagging ever since the incident. For some, the young officer had accused his boss Captain Ondoua, ed of sleeping with his wife- a story that is known to all in Kousséri. Many have opined that the three women who were also killed “helped” the captain to develop a love affair with the wife of his subordinate.
For others, the murderer accused his company commander, Captain Ondoa, of blocking his advancement in rank and abuse and a third version indicates that the carnage in Kousséri was the consequence of a mental disorder that the young gendarme is going through.
