Biya expected in Rome next month
Local media reports from the nation’s capital Yaounde say Paul Biya will travel to Italy next month. The 84 year old dictator is expected from the 20th to 22nd of March 2017 for a state visit. After receiving Sergio Mattarella, on a state visit to Cameroon that held from the 17th to 20th of March 2016, the Cameroonian chief executive will in turn be received in Italy from 20 to 22 March 2017.
In Yaounde, the two Heads of State had given an overview of the regional and international issues facing the International Community, particularly those related to terrorism including the assistance the Republic of Italy granted to Cameroon in the fight against Boko Haram.
At the bilateral level, the two heads of state expressed the desire to further strengthen cooperation between their two countries. They had agreed on the need to strengthen economic and trade exchanges between Cameroon and Italy. Numerous cooperation agreements were signed between Yaoundé and Rome during Mattarella Sergio’s stay in Cameroon.
In recent days, there has been a strong presence of Italian businessmen in Yaoundé. Led by Mario Giro, the Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, many transalpine investors, have come into contact with Cameroonian business circles.
