Bertoua: 160 elephant tusk seized by Cameroon police
160 elephant tusk have been seized in Bertoua in the East region and three suspects are in police drag net. The alleged suspects between the ages of 33 and 39, have been fueling the illegal sale of ivory via the North and East of Cameroon involving Chad and the Central African Republic.
Cameroon has been presented as a hub for illegal ivory trafficking, which threatens the survival of elephants. These poaching products, protected species, feed the networks of traffickers in the sub-region. Experts estimate that about 50,000 out of a remaining 450,000 total number of elephants are killed in Africa annually.
