Bafoussam: 30 couples legalized their unions
Thirty couples from various tribes living in the West Region have legalized their unions. The enlarged ceremony that took place at the Bafoussam III Council was part of celebrations marking the 28th edition of the International Day of the Rural Woman.
Municipal and Administrative Authorities who addressed the wedding ceremony jointly and severally spoke of one fundamental challenge faced by Rural Women- the lack of access to information. Most of the women were not conscious of how important it is to have a union legalized.
During the signing, some of the couples however opted for polygamy as prescribed by their respective African traditions. The couples all expressed gratitude to the Bafoussam III Council and the Regional Delegation of Women’s Empowerment and Family for the ceremony. An 87 year old man who had lived with his wife for more than three decades was among the newly wedded.
