Avant-goût: Yaounde makes public a preview of the opening ceremony of the women’s AFCON
A preview of the opening ceremony of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Saturday, November 19, was served to the general public on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in Yaoundé. The organizing committee has been working hard to reinforce Cameroon’s position as Africa miniature. Presentations were held yesterday Thursday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium to the delight of the 8 delegations present in Cameroon and football fans.
Skewers of artists invited for the Saturday event were on-board for the rehearsals. Renowned names like Beko Sadey and Njohror all performed during the preparatory segment marked by the anthem of the Confederation of African Football and also the official anthem of the competition, sung by Charlotte Dipanda and Richard Kings.
Thursday ceremony lasted over an hour with the staging of what the organizers described as three tables. The first, “Cameroon, Africa in miniature on the way to emergence” that involved the history of Cameroon from the pre-colonial period till date. The second photograph paid tribute to the participating countries while the last painting honored FIFA and CAF. 1000 young people have been mobilized for the occasion.
