Anglophone Uprising: Biya fires Mutengene Commissioner of Police
President Biya has dismissed the Mutengene Commissioner of Police, Ali Pierre. The 84 year old dictator appointed another Francophone police officer Éric Lazare Ndoumbe who is the current head of the South West region Intelligence Department at the regional delegation of national security.
Cameroon Intelligence Report understands the Biya action is probably the first major consequence of the recent attacks by unidentified gunmen at a police station in the town of Mutengene on the 22nd and 23rd February 2017. The decision of the President of the Republic was read some hours ago on state radio and television.
A group of youths attacked a police station in Mutengene before being repulsed by reinforcements from security forces from Tiko and Limbe. They had previously vandalized Mutengene’s bilingual high school. Mutengene is home to the National Police Training and Enforcement Center.
