Anglophone Crisis: Commonwealth Secretary General in Yaounde
The Secretary General of the Commonwealth is in Cameroon for a five-day working visit. Patricia Scotland arrived on Friday, December 15, 2017 and she is expected to meet with President Biya, Prime Minister Philemon Yang and CPDM chosen representatives of the Cameroonian civil society.
“I look forward to my first visit to Cameroon as Secretary General. As an esteemed member of our Commonwealth family, this visit will allow me not only to learn more about the country and its people, but especially to discuss concrete ways in which the Commonwealth can support Cameroon’s efforts to meet the urgent challenges it faces “said Patricia Scotland in a statement.
The Commonwealth Secretary General is in Cameroon at a time when the Anglophone regions have been rocked by socio-political crisis that has claimed the lives of hundreds of British Southern Cameroonians.
Cameroon became the 52nd member of the Commonwealth on October 16, 1995. Since then, relations between Cameroon and the Commonwealth have grown and strengthened through a mutually beneficial partnership.
