After meeting with Biya: Prime Minister Philemon Yang travels incognito to Eséka
Prime Minister Philemon Yang traveled incognito today to Eséka after his emergency meeting with the head of state. Cameroon Intelligence Report gathered that the inhabitants of Eseka were surprise to see the head of government at the site of the railway accident. Yang Philemon was accompanied by senior members of the Biya regime among them, the Minister of Justice, Laurent Esso, and the Secretary of State for Defense, Jean Baptiste Bokam.
There is evidently more to this secret trip judging from the fact that the Prime Minister did not visit the scene of the accident when all eyes were on him and President Biya. Prior to the Prime Minister’s visit to Eséka, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, René Emmanuel Sadi, had handed over the sum of 8 million FCFA to the traditional chiefs to “purify the place” of the accident.
The Commission of Inquiry created by President Paul Biya is responsible, inter alia, for determining the causes of the railway accident and proposing measures to limit the risk of such a catastrophe in the future. It will have to complete its job in less than two weeks.
