After laptop: CPDM government signs another loan agreement for the construction of Olembe stadium
The Cameroon government has signed a loan agreement worth 139 billion CFA Francs with Italy for the construction of the Olembe sports complex.
The Minister of the Economy Planning and Regional Development, Louis Paul Motaze who signed the loan agreement on behalf of the government noted that the stadium is going to be a milestone in the development of Cameroon’s sports infrastructure. He said the project that prepares Cameroon for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations will also create job for youths.
The Charges d’Affaires at the Embassy of Italy to Yaoundé signed on behalf of his government. He said the Olembe Sports Complex is a symbol of the strong ties between the two countries. He added that the Italian experience in the construction of world class stadium will be brought to Cameroon in the realization of the state of the arts infrastructure in the nation’s capital.
The six thousand capacity stadium bird nest shaped stadium will be constructed on a surface area of 34 hectares in the Olembe neighbourhood in Yaounde, not far from the Olembe low-cost houses. The Stadium that will be called the Paul Biya Stadium will have two annex stadiums, an Olympic swimming pool, a gymnasium and a hotel.
The construction project has been estimated at 139 billion CFA francs and the Cameroon Government is expected to provide 25 billion CFA francs. At the construction site, bull dozers and other heavy duty construction machinery are at work preparing the ground for the giant project; the first fully cover football stadium in the country.
