Africa Cup of Nations: 4 million dollars cash prize for winners beginning 2017 in Gabon
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) following further gains made from its TV rights and marketing has decided to increase the rewards to national teams for the 2017 and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Gabon and Cameroon respectively.
CAF recently revealed that the winner of the biggest African football tournament will receive a cash prize of 4,000,000 dollars or 2.3 billion CFA francs against 1.5 million dollars (888 million FCFA) in the past. The finalist will bank two million dollars or 1, 1 billion FCFA.
Semi finalists will go home with the sum of 888 million FCFA, while quarter-finalists will be paid 473 million FCFA. The team that wins the 3rd position will have 340 million FCFA and 281 million FCFA for every participating team.
Cameroon Intelligence Report gathered that the decision was agreed upon during CAF’s meeting of the 27th of September and all the various federations were notified by mail on the 8th of November. The Ivory Coast, winner of the last edition received the sum of 1,500,000 dollars or 888 million FCFA.
