The Francophone Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi will today Tuesday May 16, 2017 launch a project to reconstruct the Bamenda-Babadjou stretch of road which has become a dead trap to travelers heading to Southern Cameroons. Cameroon Info.Net reported that the minister will be accompanied by the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Public Works, Louis Max AYINA and both men are acting upon instructions from the Head of State through Prime Minister Philemon Yang.

The ceremony will take place in Santa sub division where the 35km road from Babadjou in the west of La Republique du Cameroun to Bamenda is expected to be reconstructed to ease the political tension that has rocked West Cameroon for almost seven months now. The Francophone government officials have also announced that there will also be the construction of the 5km round-about track of the Bamenda entrance cliff and the 12km urban section in the city of Bamenda making a total linear extent of 52km,wih joint funding from the World Bank to the tune of FCFA 60.7 billion.

In a bid to counter the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium, the Biya Francophone regime is also saying that they will construct facilities such a weighing station, two rest areas, a toll station, markets, several multiply portable water systems as well as the tarring of 50km of secondary roads to open up farming areas. A Press release from the ministry of Public Works indicates that Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi during his stay in Southern Cameroons will visit many sites including the construction of the second entrance into Bamenda, as well as the Bamenda-Babessi and Ndop-Kumbo sections of the ring road, 60.5km.

In addition, he will on Wednesday May 17, 2017 at the Bamenda Congress Hall preside over an evaluation meeting of road maintenance programs for 2016 and 2017. A spokesperson for the Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium has dismissed the Minister’s pronouncements as “Fake, too little and too late.” President Biya had promised to personally supervised roads projects in the Bamenda province of Southern Cameroons. Till this day, nothing has been heard or seen about the 84 year old dictator in Bamenda.
