Hundreds of passengers stranded on the Douala-Yaounde Highway
A nozzle buried along the main road in Manyai some 68 km from Yaounde has collapsed following heavy rains on the night of 20/21 October 2016. This has brought traffic along the Douala/Yaounde highway to a complete halt.
Hundreds of heavy-duty vehicles, inter-urban transport buses and personal cars are presently stranded. Informed of the situation, the Secretary of State for Public Works and other competent authorities have rushed to the spot to seek for an urgent solution to the problem that can have a very negative consequence on the economy of the country.
The officials are now examining the possibility of re-routing vehicles. Some road experts say a more plausible option is to leave from Yaounde -Otele -Minka- Makak- Eseka then to Boumyebel. This requires an additional two hours.
