Yaounde announces the computerization of the land system in Cameroon
The CPDM led government has announced the computerization of the land system in Cameroon. CIR has learned that by the end of 2017, the government of Cameroon plans to digitize 120 000 land titles and create a database of 240,000 parcels of land in Yaounde, Douala, Garoua and Maroua.
The Philemon Yang administration say, all existing documents will go into the archives and will be scanned digitally and loaded into the system controlled by officials of the Department of State Property and Land Affairs. Sources close to the Star Building revealed that the aim of this ambitious project is to limit the effects of corruption and embezzlement recorded in the land sector.
We also gathered that scanning will not be limited only to land titles as the project is also targeting the computerization of all services and procedures affecting land, real estate, furniture and protecting people. Cameroon has recorded in this sector, fake duplicates of land titles and the double sale of land sometimes with the complicity of notaries.
Recently, Cameroon Concord News Group reported many financial scandals that rocked the compensation process related to the expropriation of land for the construction of the Kribi port. Prominent and highly placed Cameroon government officials are the supreme culprits involved in this crime syndicate of embezzlement. To buy a piece of land in Cameroon in a strategic location is suicide.
