Cameroon, Iraq and Somalia will be the recipients of 1 543 vehicles supplied by Oshkosh Defence under a $378 million contract. The US Department of Defense said on 23 September that Oshkosh Defense was awarded a $378 137 998 modification to foreign military sales contract for the procurement of 1 543 Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles; and three 78-gallon armour B-Kit corrosion prevention kits for vehicles to ship outside the continental U.S.

Work will be performed in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with an estimated completion date of 31 July 2018. Fiscal 2010, 2015 and 1016 other procurement, Army; and other funds in the amount of $378 137 998 were obligated at the time of the award, the US Department of Defence said.

The Oshkosh Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) is a series of 17 models and 23 configurations ranging from 2.5-ton to 10-ton payloads. The vehicles feature crew-protecting armour. Commonality of parts of over 80 percent across chassis variants optimizes logistics efficiency and reduces operational costs, Oshkosh said.

The FMTV is derived from the Austrian Steyr 12 M 18 truck but modified to meet United States military requirements. All vehicles in the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles are powered by a six-cylinder, fuel-injected, electronically-controlled, turbocharged Caterpillar C7 diesel engine rated at 330hp. The engine is coupled to a seven-speed, electronically controlled Allison MD 3700 SP automatic/select transmission system.
