Indomitable Lions record solid victory against Gambia
The Indomitable Lions recorded a solid victory (2-0) against a Gambian side composed mostly of local players. Gambia is now eliminated after picking only 2 points during the whole campaign. It all started when Ghanaian referee, Joseph Lamptey Odartei sounded his whistle for a foul on Karl Toko Ekambi in the penalty area. Benjamin Moukandjo exploited the opportunity and opened the scoring in the 27th minute at the Victoria-Limbe International stadium.
The Lions were dangerous on several occasions in the Gambian goal. But the trio, Edgar Salli, Moukandjo and Toko Ekambi did not succeed in making a difference. Cameroon led one-nil at halftime. The Indomitable Lions registered their second goal in the 55th minute. It was from corner kick taken by Ambrose Oyongo that was converted by Toko Ekambi.
A visibly satisfied head coach Hugo Broos congratulated the team and hinted that with many new players coming into the squad, there was need to speed up the cohesion process. Cameroon finished first in Pool M with 14 points, Mauritania (9 points) South Africa (8 points)
