The Southern Cameroon National Council, SCNC, has embarked on a 2million signature referendum to be forwarded to the United Nations as a requirement to gain independence. So far, hundreds of signatures have been secured with the first being the prominent activist Mola Njoh Litumbe bearing No 001 on the 2million expected liberation petition. The exercise that has entered high gear was made known by the Southern Cameroon National Council frontline activist Mola Njoh Litumbe on Thursday August 25th 2016 in Buea, Fako division in the South West Region Cameroon.

“ I visited the UN and narrated the history then they turned round to me and said but is it because you haven’t been made a minister that you are complaining”, Mola Njoh recounted. Provoked by this, Mola continued that “everyone else in Cameroon is not happy, and I said you want us to start killing ourselves before you come, UN said no.”

The UN then recommended a civil means, Mola Njoh said, adding that I attempted on the 1st of October 2011 and you know the consequences. “This time around when I was visiting London a young Cameroonian there said, “Mola you are getting on, but what is your advice for us to end this matter”, then I said look, I have been to the UN, they said they want tangible prove that what I am saying is shared by the majority of Cameroonians. I said give me just 2million signatories of southern Cameroonians and the matter would be over. And that’s why the idea of the signature came up”, he narrated.

 The London faction of the SCNC die-hearts revealed Mola Njoh pledged to speed up the process at their level. Locally, Mola said “we have also timidly started and those who are interested can come and take the specimen of the form.” Couple with the 2million decisive signatures, is a clever petition to be cabled to the UN. The pen is always mightier that the sword, Mola Njoh noted, reiterating that he won’t tolerate Southern Cameroonians going to the bush to fight to get killed, then what am I fighting for, he asked. “Do it the peaceful way by signing the Signature Referendum massively so that it will constitute the evidence of the majority”, he cautioned. The heavy weight SCNC recalled that “the British army left at midnight on the 30th of September 1961 and disregarded the fact that the UN had on 21st of April passed a resolution granting Southern Cameroons independence as from first of October 1961.”

 “Where are we now, what happened to the UN resolution giving us independence, and they added by joining. They defined the joining procedure as far back as December 1960 before the plebiscite. In 1961 they said independence by joining. The joining had to be with reference to the definition of independence by joining as previously taken by them all that has not happened,” he continued.

On the legality of the marriage, Mola observed that “In the resolutions granting Southern Cameroon independence, La Republique voted against it. But a majority of members approved it. Although we thought that having a minority view they will confront the view of the majority, they have never done so”. So my view all along is that this is like catching my daughter on the way and you say you are a young brilliant lawyer and they should stay together without going through the church or civil status, he said.
