Ministry of Finance calls for improved performance in public accounts
Irregularities often detected by the Audit Bench of the Supreme Court in the drafting of State accounts are being discussed at a two-day workshop in Yaounde for Accounting Officers of Public Administrative Establishments. The Secretary General in the Ministry of Finance, Gilbert Didier Edoa, opened the workshop yesterday, July 28, 2016, on behalf of his minister. The training is part of reforms in the 2013 Financial Regime that aim at upgrading the preparation, programming and management of public finances.
The Director General of Treasury, Financial and Monetary Cooperation, Sylvester Moh Tanghongho, stated that newly appointed Heads of Treasury Accounting Stations, who are holding such positions for the first time, will be drilled on the challenges of public finance governance and the nitty-gritties of producing periodic summary financial statements that are regular, sincere and gives a true and fair view of State accounts.
The seminar themes cut across the budgetary and accounting phases of a Public Administrative Establishment, from drafting, execution, control of execution to the building of accounts. The over 160 Accounting Officers who are key actors in the execution and control of the execution of the State budget are expected to upgrade skills on the organization and keeping of accounts, cash management techniques and the principles of drafting financial statements.
