Donald Trump tells campaign manager: “You are fired”
US presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has fired his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski as he is facing increasing challenges in pivoting toward the November election. “The Donald J Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign,” Campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said in a statement on Monday.
“The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future,” she added. Lewandowski was reportedly informed of his dismissal on Monday morning and surprised at Trump’s decision.
Lewandowski led Trump’s campaign from the beginning and was credited with the real estate mogul’s initial victories in the primaries. He, however, has been recently sidelined with more experienced figures including chief strategist Paul Manafort.
